Aardvark Athletics: Week of May 14

The high school Ultimate teams had a long afternoon of games in the River Valley Athletic League Tournament on Wednesday. The Varsity team came out a little cold for game one against White Oak, lost the game in an upset, but proceeded to win against Buxton and later BART. Perhaps the best game of our season was played against the Putney School, which ended in an 8-9 loss after a ‘universe point’ that lasted for nearly five minutes. Throughout the day the Varsity squad exhibited strong, cohesive defense, scores of hard-fought offensive points, and excellent teamwork. The JV team, who had also faced a tough Eaglebrook team on Monday, played hard all afternoon long, but was unable to come out with any victories. Regardless, they demonstrated significant improvement and approached the afternoon with a wonderful spirit.  Thank you to all of the fans who came out to support our players.

On Wednesday, the kayakers spent the entire day out on the river as they celebrated the culmination of a season’s worth of work. Several students attempted to paddle the Zoar Gap, and a few made it through successfully!

Also on Wednesday, the middle school Ultimate team held on to win 12-9 in their season finale against a competitive Four Rivers squad at Greenfield Community College. Nick F and Anna P-C scored five and three times, respectively, and Atticus R had two goals and three assists.  Charlie P was sensational on defense and Elisa R had her strongest game yet.  Leo W, competing for the first time all season, also scored a goal and played well on both offense and defense.

Girls lacrosse lost two tough games this week against Miss Halls and Pittsfield JV. Sarah H played well in goal, Lizzie H led the scoring attack in both games, and Ella D had two strong defensive games to conclude her Academy lacrosse career.
