Wednesday, October 15th: Understanding Local BIPOC Historical & Contemporary Culture

Understanding Local BIPOC Historical & Contemporary Culture
Academy students, faculty, friends will enjoy a morning of workshops by various educators and presenters, ranging from making bark baskets in the style of the Narragansett tribe with Jennifer Lee, to studying both indigenous and colonial objects from the collection at Historic Deerfield, to learning about local freedom seekers and abolitionists with local historians Bambi Miller and Mary Boehmer, as well as with Tom Goldscheider of The David Ruggles Center, to engaging in Indigenous Circle Practice with Pa’lante Transformative Justice, to viewing artworks (including her own film) about the US-Mexico border with our own Spanish teacher, Patricia Montoya–and more!

Open to the public: At 12:50 PM, a select group of our panelists will engage in a forum and open Q&A on topics connected to the day’s overall theme, supporting our community in understanding and more actively engaging in antiracist practices. To join us, RSVP at academy@charlemont.org.
