Announcment: New Academic Deans Appointed

Head of School Brian Bloomfield has announced the appointment of Neale Gay as The Academy’s Academic Dean for Humanities and the Arts, and John Schatz as Academic Dean for Math, Science, and Languages, beginning July 1. This new structure will create the capacity for us to think even more broadly and deeply about our curriculum, our assessment strategies, and our experiential learning component.

Mr. Gay’s years of teaching, curriculum development, and leadership, his work with students and families as The Academy’s Director of College Counseling, and his depth of knowledge and experience in the Humanities fields and the arts will make him a dynamic Academic Dean.  He will continue to serve as Director of College Counseling and will teach one class.

Mr. Schatz will be resuming his tenure at our school, having taught math and science at The Academy from 2010 to 2012.  During that time he also coached Soccer, Basketball and Ultimate Frisbee, prior to assuming the role of Head of School at The Island School in the Bahamas.  He, too, brings a wealth of leadership and teaching experience to the role, and will teach several courses.

Stephanie Purington will work closely with both Mr. Gay and Mr. Schatz to ensure a smooth transition.  The Academy is grateful to Ms. Purington for her invaluable contributions in the search process, and for her continued dedication to our school in ways both seen and unseen.
