Academy Athletics – Week of October 2, 2017

The Girls Varsity soccer team had an exciting week. They tied Putney 0-0 on Monday with Lilah F. holding down the shutout in goal. The girls lost a nail-biter to Four Rivers, 2-1, on Tuesday. Ruby C scored the Academy’s lone goal, while Calla J and Francesca R played well all over the field and Greta M had a good game on defense.

On Monday, the Boys Varsity Soccer team lost 4-3 to Putney. Hendrik P, Liam F, and Nacho TP contributed to all Charlemont scores, as they each had a goal and an assist. Kyle N had ten saves in goal. On Wednesday, the boys defeated White Oak 12-2 behind goals from Ishan S (4), Harper W-W (2), Hendrik P, Tor O, Raymond M, Alec D, Nat B-O, and Will D.
The JV Boys Soccer team tied Eaglebrook School 1-1 in an exciting game on Tuesday afternoon. Raymond M scored late in the second half to knot up the score. Nacho TP was excellent in goal, playing the whole game and making ten saves. The fullback line, led by Harper W-W and Sam R, was solid throughout the contest. On offense, the Academy midfielders connected with strikers for near-goals on several occasions. Atticus R and Alex T were a force on both offense and defense. Overall, it was a great team effort.
The Cross-Country team raced at Four Rivers on Wednesday and look forward to having a healthy team back on their home course next Wednesday.
On Thursday, a co-ed team of mostly 7th and 8th graders lost a nail-biter to the Greenfield Center School by a score of 4-3. The Aardvark squad came back twice from two-goal deficits to get to within reach of a victory. Atticus R had two goals and Charlie P added another, while Gwen H was stellar in goal, making 13 saves. She was aided by a defensive line that improved as the game wore on. These two teams will play again before the end of the season.
