Aardvark Athletics: Week of April 23

The JV Ultimate team had their first win on Tuesday against PVCICS. The final score was 5-4. Raymond M had 3 assists and one goal, Lila G, Kayla H, and Nacho d. also contributed to the scoring. The team had a very well fought game against Buxton on Thursday, losing 11-8. Sylvie M, Elaina G-B, Alec D, and Avery M all scored while Alec D and Lila G recorded several assists.

The girls lacrosse team defeated Pinecobble 21-9 on Wednesday with goals from Academy students Ruby R and Ella D and strong defense and an assist from Celeste D. The teams also played a scrimmage with some of Pinecobble’s younger players, and Celeste D, Haven VW, Ruby R, and Ella D also contributed to the scoring in that game.

On Tuesday, the Academy’s middle school Ultimate team lost to a formidable PVCICS squad by of score of 11-1.  Nick F scored the only Aardvark goal, late in the game, on an assist from Anna P-C. Ella R and Anna P-C played well in the challenging windy conditions. Employing the new team mantra, “All In,” the team defeated the Four Rivers middle school girls squad 15-2 at Greenfield Community College on Thursday afternoon. Ruby C had two goals and a remarkable six assists in the win. Atticus R had two goals and four assists. Other players with goals and/or assists were Juliet C, Nick F, Tess M-R, Greta M, Anna P-C, Chanina K, Jorja M, and Charlie P. It was the improving team’s first win of the season!

The Aardvarks’ zone and quick transition offense proved too much for Hartsbrook’s spirited coed team on Tuesday.  Eliza, Hendrick, and Sam were consistent endzone threats, While Will and Nat both put up several assists. Strong defensive plays by Linnea, Tucker, and Grayson were crucial in pulling off the victory. The Aardvarks won 10 -7.

In a rainy match against Four Rivers’ Girls’ Varsity Ultimate team on Wednesday, our Varsity squad came up short of a victory, losing 9-15 to the talented team from the East. Despite a last-minute run of 5 straight points, including 4 from Nat, our Varsity squad couldn’t make up the difference in the face of Four Rivers’ highly technical offense. Tucker had a strong game, racking up six assists and five defensive blocks. Linnea, Izzy B, Liam N, and Nat played phenomenal defense as well. The teams came together after the game to share feedback and praise in a show of good spirit.

A fast-paced and exciting game ended in victory for our Varsity squad on Thursday, against the Four Rivers Boys’ JV team. Our dynamic zone defense stymied the visiting team’s handling, and our well-rounded offense took the game 11-8. In all, nine of our players scored at least one goal. Grayson and Liam F’s excellent defense were crucial in holding the opponent scoreless in the second half of the game.
