Hilltown Youth Theatre Summer Workshop

Now in its eighth season, the Hilltown Youth Theatre Summer Workshop presents our seventh outdoor, traveling spectacle, Shakespeare In Like, an original adaptation of the Bard’s work. Aspiring actors, musicians, singers, dancers and set-designers from ages 10 – 18 will enjoy three weeks of movement, voice work, intensive actor training and work on large apparatus (spools, aerial fabrics flying trapeze, etc.). Guest artists joining us this season include: Knight Horse—“our mission is to make Shakespeare cool again!” (http://knighthorse.org)— NY Innovative Award winning mask designer, director and performer Joe Osheroff, trapeze artist Arlie Hart and many others! Monday-Friday – July 17-August 6, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM with select later evening and weekend rehearsals. (Performances: August 3, 4, & 5.)

Littles & Middles Group: Littles & Middles Group: This popular program accepts a limited number of young artists to train and perform in the production. Half days (9 – 12), ages 7 – 9, July 17 – August 6.

Two-Week, Set Design Intensive w/Laura Iveson: A performing arts experience with a focus on public installations for aspiring artists and set designers. Half days (9:30 – 12:30), July 24 – August 6. Participants will be designing the set for this summer’s outdoor traveling spectacle, Shakespeare In Like.

The Recovery Theatre: A performing arts experience for young people overcoming anxiety, addiction, depression and other mental health challenges. Two 5-day, pre-workshop Recovery Intensive w/Alyssa Wright & Jonathan Diamond PhD: Half days (9:30 – 1PM), ages 13 – 19, July 3 – July 15. Overseen by Academy Summer Drama Director Jonathan Diamond Ph.D., Mohawk High School Art teacher/Double Edge Theatre resident artist, Rachel Silverman; former Double Edge Theatre and current Longmeadow HS Music Director Scott Halligan, with special guests: Aerial Trapeze Artist Arlie Hart, Academy Studio Instructor Matt Kim, Keene State College Dance Professor Cynthia McLaughlin, Henna and Makeup Artist Kelly Flaherty, Set Designer Laura Iveson, activist, fundraiser and performer Alyssa Wright, Chrysalis Theatre, Double Edge Theatre, and other luminaries of the valley performing arts community.
