Academy 2020 Summer Programs

We’re pleased to be offering virtual opportunities for learning, creativity, and engagement this summer, with workshops occurring between July 13 and August 14. Please see below for more details on each offering, or to register!

Algebra 1 Skills Sharpener – July 13-24, 10:00-11:00 AM (M-F) 
Prepare yourself for next year by sharpening the skills you’ll need for success in Algebra 1. We will review and tackle the nuts and bolts of three major topics: number properties and facts, pre-algebra computational skills, and problem-solving skills. More information can be found here.
For: Students who have completed Pre-Algebra, or equivalent ~ Cost: Free

Algebra 2 Skills Sharpener – July 13-24, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM (M-F) 
Prepare yourself for next year by sharpening the skills you’ll need for success in Algebra 2. We will review and tackle the nuts and bolts of Algebra 1. More information can be found here

Audio Recording at Home – July 20-31, 10:30-11:30 AM (M-F)
Are you interested in learning to record yourself at home? Do you have a recording interface/software such as Pro Tools First, or Garageband, and want to learn how to record and mix your own songs? Good news! We’re offering a remote class this summer to show you the basics of recording.
For: Rising 9th-12th grades ~ Cost: Free

Connecting with Area Activists – July 27-31, 10:30-11:30 AM (M-F) 
Curious about how to respond to the world around you in a way that has an impact? Join us in virtual visits with area activist organizations, including (subject to change) Arise for Social Justice, Sunrise Hilltowns, Greening Greenfield, The Root Social Justice Center and Pioneer Valley Workers and learn about how they react to and create change within the world around them.
For: Rising 6th-12th grades ~ Cost: Free

SAT Critical Reading & Writing – August 3-6, 9:00-10:30 AM (M-F) 
The SAT Critical Reading and Writing (CRW) course will provide students with strategies to use when taking the test, as well as with the opportunity to ask questions of the instructor in a small group setting. Each day will focus on strategies and the individual subtests that contribute to the overall CRW score.

For: Rising 10th-12th grades ~ Cost: $100

Sweater Monsters and More August 10-14, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM (M-F) 
Spend the week sewing, embroidering, and embellishing, as we turn our old sweaters into cuddly stuffed monsters. Create something truly original from what you have lying around the house! Follow along as we measure, cut, and sew our monsters, add buttons, beads and even accessories and clothing.
