The Eleanor Lazarus Memorial Fund for the Arts

The family and friends of Eleanor Lazarus, herself an educator and a supporter of the arts in education, have established The Eleanor (Ellie) Lazarus Memorial Fund for the Arts at The Academy at Charlemont, to honor her passions and her fondness for the school.  The purpose of The Fund is to support the Studio Block arts program at The Academy, and specifically to enable the school to continue to attract visiting professional artists to work with students in an abundant variety of media and disciplines.

Since its founding in 1981, The Academy at Charlemont has valued and embodied the principles of a classical education including an emphasis on the importance of balance among all avenues of learning:  academic, artistic, and athletic. A former Ashfield resident, Ellie first became involved with the school as a guest “artist in residence”, working with an upper level art class.  She died in February 2013.

This endowed fund will continue to accept gifts.  A portion of income will be used for artist stipends, with the balance being reinvested over time.  To make an endowment gift to support The Academy’s Studio Block arts program, please click here.
