Student Life

All work and no play? Not an option! The Academy is a fun place to be, and our faculty and students collaborate on a variety of social events throughout the year. For students from different local towns, we provide a central location for activities, and sponsor at least one social activity per month. Students organize the dances, from decorations to music to food. The seniors help us organize many of the school-day activities, such as our start-of-the-year rafting trip and Mountain Day. Polyglot, a favorite for returning alums, is our nod to the worldwide festivities that take place in December, and features a sit-down turkey dinner, Secret Santa gift hunts, and the singing of celebratory songs in many languages. The coffee houses and open mics are a chance to let the muse flourish (and rock—check out the clips on our youtube channel!). The square dance (or Hoe Down) is a fun way to connect with New England roots, and the semi-formal, while decidedly not a prom, does mean students dress in their finest and bring a little extra to the preparations. All in all, it makes for quite an interesting year!
