Commencement
In early June, the Academy community gathers to honor the seniors as they begin a new chapter, and to celebrate the spirit and hard work that sustains us through each year. Faculty present awards, the headmaster presents diplomas, and each senior has the opportunity to share his or her reflections on a high school career at Charlemont.
An Academy graduation is marked both by formality and by fun. The 8th grade is recognized as making the transition from middle school to high school; the Will Sparks Award for outstanding service to the school is occasionally presented to an adult in the Academy community, the Robert Jaros Citizenship Award goes to an exemplary student citizen, and the Honor Council Award, Academic Excellence Award and the Outstanding Athlete awards are also presented. The real highlight of the day, however, are the speeches of the graduating seniors. By turns poignant, wise and funny, these remarks allow graduating seniors to put their unique stamp on a momentous day.
