Model UN

Gabriel was designated third best delegate on the Israeli-Palestinian Peace Conference, representing Israel among several dozen nations.  Michalak won for Best Position Paper on the Historic Security Council Committee, focusing on the Korean War, where he represented the People’s Republic of China.  They were part of a 20-member delegation from The Academy, comprised of students in grades 9 through 12.

For Gabriel, this Model UN session was his second.  Previously he represented Chile on the Legal Committee.  Of this year’s experience, he says “it was eye-opening to play an intimate role in such a real and current conflict, and to be recognized from among so many talented student delegates.”

This was also Michalak’s second Model UN experience, having attended last year.  This year, he says, he was “more focused on crises and how to handle situations in the moment.  Being on a small committee with contentious viewpoints made it difficult to reach consensus, but the process strengthened my understanding of international politics and gave me an insight into the views of non-western powers.”

Congratulations to Allen and Ben!
