Dr. Kathy Bullock’s Presentation on the Roots of American Music

Dr. Kathy Bullock, who leads choruses and performs gospel music all over the world when not in residence at Berea College in Kentucky, gave an enlightening, rousing, and evocative presentation at The Academy on Wednesday, May 20.  She shared the story of the roots of American popular music in the spirituals, gospel, and blues traditions, including an unforgettable account of early African American experience.

Dr. Bullock led us through several gospel songs, getting to high spirited moving four part harmony in a matter of minutes, and creating an interactive event that was inspirational and joyous.  The Academy is grateful for the generosity of Christina and Manfred Gabriel (P16), who brought Dr. Bullock to campus.
