Academy Parents Council

The Academy Parents Council (APC) helps the school accomplish its mission by gathering parents to provide support in three key areas: community, program, and advancement. Participation in these activities is voluntary, but all Academy parents are welcome.

In order to allow Academy parents to share their time and talents in ways they find most productive and enjoyable, leadership of the work (and play) of the APC is distributed among three teams of parents. Team membership is not the same thing as joining a committee! By joining a team, parents identify themselves as interested in participating in projects, someone who is particularly interested in helping out in that area of the school's life and the APC's work. Team coordinators help organize the team to accomplish its tasks.

The Community Team of the APC helps the school accomplish its mission by fostering a sense of connection and common purpose among Academy families, between parents and the school, between the school and the towns it serves. Some representative activities include: organizing/hosting class picnics and other social events; identifying and supporting off-campus community service projects; introducing The Academy to other communities; supporting the school's Home Towns Initiative and other outreach efforts.

The Program Team of the APC helps the school accomplish its mission by sharing their time and talents in support of The Academy's academic and co-curricular programs. Some representative activities include: logistical and technical support for athletics and winter drama; offering all-school assemblies or a special project; sharing intellectual, artistic, and cultural resources; chaperoning field trips or events.

The Advancement Team of the APC helps the school accomplish its mission by supporting The Academy's admissions and development programs. Some representative activities include: hosting a Home Towns Initiative event; participating in an admissions Open House; taking phone calls from prospective parents; logistical support for the annual Clean-A-Thon; making follow-up phone calls associated with the Annual Fund; grant writing.
